Tregony Bread

Here at Stanbury House, during the lock-down, we have been baking bread for our neighbours. As everyone knows, flour is difficult to get; however, we have just managed to secure a delivery of flour directly from a flour mill. This means that we are able to extend our production.

We would like to offer our bread to the village. First, to to those who are ‘shielding’ or self-isolating and finding it difficult to get to the shops and to the key workers (NHS staff, CARE workers, teachers and others carrying out essential services) who may also find it difficult to get to the shops. Second, to the wider Tregony community (note: this will be depended on capacity). We make no charge for the bread* – it is simply a small way we can help during this time of lock-down. If, however (but please do not feel any obligation) you would like to make a small donation (you can leave it in our letterbox) then any/all funds will be given to the NHS charity and used to buy coffees for NHS staff in Cornwall (Click here to find out about this initiative).

*Update
Over the last three weeks, we have distributed about 100 loaves of bread to the residents of Tregony (thank you to those who have made donations; all donations have gone to the Trelisk NHS charity). I am pleased to say that the flour mill (who supply me with the fantastic organic flour) have now classified me as a ‘micro-bakery’, which means that I can order flour whenever I need it and I have just taken delivery of another 52kg of flour.
I am keen to continue to supply bread, free of charge, to health/care workers and to those struggling at this time; however, I have also had a number of requests to supply bread on a regular basis – I have declined these requests as I did not want to be in the position of having to prioritise regular orders over requests by people in need. To solve this, I have decided to move some people to a payment model. This will enable those who can afford to pay for their bread to help subsidise the costs involved with supplying free bread to health/care workers and those who are unable to pay at this time.
Please do continue to request bread (easiest way for me is via [email protected]) and, if you would like a regular order or would like to pay for your bread, send me a message and I will reply with a price list. Hopefully this will enable bread to continue to flow out of Stanbury House.

The bread

Our bread is baked from traditional grains milled in a traditional way. We use a variety of flours including organic white and wholemeal. We use the ancient method of ‘sourdough’ rather than adding baker’s yeasts; this means that the ingredients of our bread are only flour, water, and a little salt.

Stanbury House (on Fore Street) is registered as a food business establishment with Cornwall Council (reference cornwall-952046).

Generally, the bread comes in two sizes:
Small (approximately 500g) and
Large (approximately 1kg)
The standard loaf is white (organic) and can be ‘malted’ or wholemeal – depending on flour availability.

While the bread only has three ingredients, it is made in an establishment that uses other ingredients. Therefore, if you have an allergy, please tell us and we will take extra care when preparing your loaf (note: we do use a very small amount of vegetable oil as a releasing agent on the loaf tins. Traces of this may be found on the outside of the loaves).

Below are some images of loaves. We bake 2 or 3 times a week and would be happy to add a loaf in for you. This can either be collected from Fore Street or we would be happy to deliver it to you. If you would like to try a loaf send me an email to: [email protected] – remember to include your name, type of bread and a delivery address.
